Hello all! You’re probably wondering what in the world happened to me – if I fell off the end of the earth or something – since it’s been so long since I posted. Sorry about that! I didn’t quite make it to the end of the earth, but we got pretty close (at least it felt that way on the plane). I just got back from spending 9 days in Hawaii with some of my family. It was FANTASTIC!!! Here’s one quick shot from our trip…
Needless to say, we haven’t made much progress with our projects this month because of our vacation. Before the vacation, we were busy running around getting ready, and after the vacation it took a while to recover. Now that we’re back into the swing of things, though, we’re back at it!
As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I am putting together a team through my church to run a half marathon (13.1 Dallas) in October for Team World Vision. (I will actually be running two half marathons with Team World Vision – 13.1 Dallas in October and the half marathon of the Dallas Marathon in December.)
I am super excited about this venture because it’s such a great chance to make a really big impact! Team World Vision raises money to provide clean water for impoverished areas in Africa. Our team has set a goal of raising $13,000, the cost of one well in Africa. That’s a pretty tall order, but I’m confident we can do it! (If you are in the Dallas area and want to join our team, we’d love to have you! The six weeks of pre-training starts on June 25, and the 12 weeks of half marathon training starts August 4. You can sign up here.)
In order to help us raise money for the well, Abby decided she wants to have a lemonade and cookie stand at our house this Saturday. She’ll be making (with a little help from mom) ice-cold lemonade, cookies and brownies, with a suggested donation of $1 per item. Her goal is to raise enough money to provide clean water for one person for life: $50. Here are the details for her event:
Abby’s Lemonade Stand – Saturday, June 23 – 10 am – 12 pm
If you live in the area, please consider stopping by and buying a refreshing drink or a sweet treat from my little angel! She will be so excited if she can raise a lot of money for this cause. She knows a lot about World Vision, since we sponsor a little girl from the Congo (Belinda). Please help me make this a really meaningful experience for her!
If you can’t make it to the lemonade stand but would like to chip in for Abby’s contribution to Team World Vision, you can do so here. (Please leave a note to let me know you’re contributing for Abby’s Lemonade Stand so I can let her know how much money she raises!)
